De tekst van channel4.com/4car:
The next-generation Clio is planned for launch next summer. Sharing its underpinnings with the latest Nissan Micra, it will be slightly longer than the current car, but width and height will remain unchanged. It will have a rear end similar to that of the latest Megane, with a reverse-sloped rear screen and bustle-like bottom, and the front end will also resemble the Megane's very strongly. The engine line-up will be similar to that of the Micra, including the two dCi diesel units (62bhp and 82bhp), and a
Renaultsport 2.0-litre turbo engine (200bhp) is also on the cards.
The Clio hatchback will follow the 'Cliospace' mini-MPV, which goes into production next spring to rival models such as the Fiat Idea, Opel Meriva, Toyota Yaris Verso and so on. This will be a five-seater, with, of course, a clever folding, sliding and versatile seat layout. Pre-production models are already on the lines at one of Renault's factories in Spain, and this car will pioneer a new method of body manufacture, also to be used for the new Clio hatch. Industrial-strength glue will replace welding on some underbody parts, including the engine compartment and rear frame. Ultimately, this process will be adopted for all Renault and Nissan models. It marks a big change in Renault's manufacturing methods, and is a new procedure likely to be adopted by all the major companies in the future. Similar processes have already been used in low-volume production, in models such as the Aston Martin Vanquish and Jaguar XJ, but it will become widespread for the making of mainstream models within the decade.
Renault is also to use more laser-welding, and plans to cut its manufacturing costs at many plants by rebuilding older equipment rather than buying new tooling. It is to reduce the number of quality inspection points in its factories, as more precise welding techniques and the stalling of imperfect vehicles before they go onto the final assembly lines, has meant that the usual 500 inspection points can be reduced to just 80. This is in line with procedures already in force at the factories of its partner company, Nissan. The Clio MPV is not just a new model, but the first example of new working practices.
Groeten,
Rik
P.S. Dat zijn wel hele oude Renault-velgen, of niet, Safrane dacht ik??
