I have owned various phase I en phase II renault 5 gt turbo's. The experiences I have had make me decide that the phase I gtt's are not as good protect agains rust as the phase II ones.

Has anybody had similar experiences?

I didn't know there were so much different versions....
I think I am going to rebuild my phase II one, and strip the phase I to pieces, so I have some spare parts <IMG SRC="http://www.renault-tuning.com/phpBB/ima ... _smile.gif">

My GT is a Phase I ('87) with a '90 motor.
I own the car now since juli 2000 (205.000 km total!!) and NO RUST!!!
I might have been in a garage for years but that I don't know.

i have one of the first models of the gtt. he is from 1985. so you can see it is no problem if it's an old or knew one... my renault has 250.000km and still in top condition....

Hoe snel is een Chinees.. in principe is de phase 2 sneller omdat die 5pk meer heeft.. en een betere ontsteking heeft maar of dat daadwerkelijk ook zo is.. GEEN IDEE

How fast is a chinese? In theory the phase 2 is quicker, because it has a 5 hp increase and better electronic ignition but the practise remains to be seen.. I DONT HAVE A CLUE!!

I'm looking for a new GT right now, am actually surprised the ammount of ph1 is that many. Makes me wonder if it really less good. I've seen some ph1 live wich still look pretty good.

it seems all versions of renault 5 gt turbo do rust and a lot of rustspots are exactly on the same places.
I have seen several of both versions on the dump and there is little difference in rust problems.

The more newer versions indeed have some changes in electronics, cooling and suspension and I consider them as slightly better.
A lot of small parts also have been changed to increase durability, however interior of latest versions wear out quicker due to weaker fabric tissue and dirt sensitive door panels.
phase 2 with 5 hp extra seems actually a bit slower in top speed but quicker in overtaking at medium speed.

Phase 1 feels and drives a lot more agressively, I like it more than a bit tired feeling ph 2.

What concerns quality, a ph2 has some modifications that are better, slightly better ignition, cooling en turbo in some cases (watercooled). It also has a bigger boost.
