anyone know if the rear beam/axle from a clio will
fit the renault 9 by any chance ??

the reason i am asking is that my torsion bars are seized solid
and dont want to come out ,so i am thinking of replacing the
whole rear beam with a clio one (with free torsion bars )

my car is a 1988 renault 9 1.7 gtx with open type torsion bars
and drums at the rear .
was thinking of a clio beam with discs if it fits .

but how can i find out for sure ??
is there a way i can measure dimensions of the r9 axle and compare them with the clio one ??
if so ,what measurements do i need ?

a 5gtt rear axle does fit a clio, so I think a clio axle does also fit an renault 9er.

9gtt has the same rear axle as a 5gtt I thougt?

of the axle on the r9 and compare it with a clio one .

No, doesn't fit !

Take one from an R19, that will fit on a 9 or 11.
rev it like a rental

Menno is right, ask Cannonballman on this forum, he got an rear-axle from a 19-16v fitted under his 11.
You have to make pretty extreme adjusments though, the axle is much wider then the 9/11-axle. So you have to cut, weld and widen the fenders.

Maybe you can try to find an 9/11 turbo/gte axle, thats more plug and play.

well i am looking for more like a plug and play type of thing
dont want to go into welding and grinding stuff .
the problem with finding a r9/11/turbo etc axle is that the last one of them cars are made in 1988 in u.k (mine is a 1988 ) and the rear axles are more or less the same on these ,the older the worse :(
and these cars nowadays are very rare as well .
thats why i was initially looking to see if clio axle would fit .

cannonballman must have some info on this ,i will pm him to get his opinion . cheers

There is always a way to get your own torsion bars out, just keep hitting it with a heavy hammer !!! :)

you sound promising ,which is good
i much prefer being able to get the bars out .
but tried pulling them out a few times and the ends of them
look like they are rust welded to the outer circle (where bar end lives )
and the threads in the bars are slowly shearing out now :(

where do i hit it with a hammer from ????
also can i use a hydrolic system of some sort to make things easier
do you think ??

No, I managed with 2 people, holding a strong iron bar agains it, and the other one smashing it further INSIDE with a heavy hammer, driving the opposite bar out!

We kept smashing at it for approx 4 hours, heating it up now and then, and voila, it came out .

hahaa ,what a determination .

i still dont get where you exactly hit with the bar though ???
the end of the bars may be ,like pushing them in rather than pulling them out ??

Yes! smash it there. You need to find an iron bar that will fit right trough. I have made a special tool that I could screw on to it 8)

When it had moved it can be pulled out with the 'normal' tool anytime, when nessecary.

You really have to hit it with a lot of weight and it will look pretty useless while you are doing it. Just, dont give up  You will not destroy the axle or anything as long as you keep hitting the torsionbar.
