Hi people,

since Saturday I have a problem with my R5 GTT. After driving quite hard around corners and after a certain point my steering became suddenly stiff and the return stopped working 100%. I then went for a quite drive and found out that the steering became rather stiff around the straight line position and also around there the return is not functioning properly. The car still corners ok, no need to turn more or anything. So its just the feel that went bad along with some squicking noise at the lower side of the steering wheel.
Just as a remark, I didnt hit anything and it did really happen from one moment to the next.

Hope that someone can help a bit,

Greg

It's the bearing just under your steeringwheel, if you release the steeringwheel you could see it.

New bearing in it en here ya go again 8)

check dustcap, two half parts holded together where the steering colomn enters the steering house, on being loose or displaced.

Thanks a lot all. Helpful as always (Y) :)
I ll take a look as soon as I can. I assume that this bearing can be ordered from Renault!?

An update: I opened everything up today and it was the upper half of the steering column. I had actually bent it along with the steering wheel!!!
I guess I was sitting a bit too far back and ended up hanging on the steering wheel!! Silly me. Next time better. Now its fixed anyway.

Perhaps a little bit of oil will do the same trick
